Marco Colaiacovo’s journey in business didn’t start in a boardroom … it began in a Bar in Downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia.

In his mid 20s, Marco bought Jerry’s Pub, a bar busy downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia, and operated it during one of the most competitive times ever in a fast-paced marketplace.
Under Marco’s leadership, Jerry’s Pub became a well-known local institution and to this day is remembered by many as one of the city’s most vibrant spots.
From securing startup financing through creative investor stock offerings to optimizing operations for efficiency and profitability, he quickly learned that running a business is about more than just serving drinks – it’s about people, strategy, and execution.
Marco made the decision to sell Jerry’s when he and his wife Kathy started their family. (Owning a bar with a cabaret license was not conducive to the family life they envisioned.)
Marco transitioned into corporate roles, first joining Blockbuster Video to oversee the opening of new stores in Halifax and Charlottetown, PEI.
Recognizing the growing importance of technology, he returned to school to earn an IT diploma, setting the stage for what would become a 25+ year career in contact centers.
His expertise in operations, change management, and digital transformation positioned him as a leader in remote work strategies long before they became the norm.
A Legacy of Hard Work and Entrepreneurship
Born to parents who immigrated to Canada from Italy in the late 1950s, Marco grew up witnessing firsthand the dedication and sacrifice it takes to build something from the ground up.
His parents worked tirelessly to create opportunities for Marco and his brother and sister, instilling in them a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for hard work, people and small businesses as the backbone of thriving communities.
Inspired by this foundation, Marco built a career centered on leadership, problem-solving, and service. His diverse experiences in small business ownership, corporate operations, and nonprofit leadership allow him to understand the challenges that organizations face including limited resources, time constraints, and the need to make every decision count.
Championing Nonprofits and Community Organizations
Beyond his work in business, Marco has dedicated much of his life to serving nonprofits and community organizations. He understands that nonprofits are often run with the same passion and drive as small businesses but with the added challenge of balancing mission-driven work with financial sustainability.
At 211 Nova Scotia, Marco played a pivotal role in building the resources and partnerships that connect individuals and families with essential community resources.
Marco’s leadership in nonprofit sectors extends to his volunteer work as a long-time coach with his kids sports teams as well as local organizations like the Contact Centre Association of Nova Scotia and the Italian Canadian Cultural Association of NS, where he has helped them strengthen their future with strategic planning that drives social change.

Marco’s leadership experience extends beyond Canadian borders. Having worked with international organizations and on global initiatives, he brings a unique perspective to problem-solving, innovation, and collaboration.
His ability to adapt to different business landscapes and cultural environments has equipped him with the tools to support small businesses and nonprofits in navigating an ever-changing world. However, no matter how far his work takes him, his heart remains firmly rooted in local communities, helping grassroots organizations and small businesses thrive.
